Sarah and I – and several non-knitting members of the family – have had the flu. Knitting would seem the ideal occupation for someone too achy and weak to rise out of a chair and, say, do the laundry. In fact, being ill is the best excuse in the world for being at home and completely neglecting housework in favor of knitting. Unfortunately, when Sarah is ill she tends to fink out on knitting as well as housework – she naps. I, on the other hand, sit dutifully in my leather chair in the living room with my knitting lying in my lap and stare at the wall. Occasionally, I shake myself, pick up the needles and knit three-quarters of a row, cough, look out the window to see if it is raining or not, watch it rain or not, shake myself and start to knit the last quarter row, realize I do not remember which row I am on, cough, figure out the row and count out the patterns stitches, finish the row, stare at the wall while holding the needles, cough…

It is a slow process and not terribly productive.

We are both better now and hope to step up our knitting productivity. It is not that we are “behind” on our knitting (quite honestly, we are always “behind” – so it is our natural state and not worth mentioning), it is that we feel a lack of knitting in our days. Our hands miss knitting, our brains miss knitting. It is like a vitamin deficiency.

I am going to try to explain to the non-knitting members of the family who have run out of clean socks that I have to get my vitamin “Kn” level up before I can resume household responsibilities.
