In May I posted a piece about “not knitting (much).” I said there was not much to say about “not
knitting (much)” in a knitting blog.
There is a corresponding amount of “not much to say” about “not blogging
about not knitting (much).”
It is probably sufficient to say that in our house,
summertime is full-blown family time –especially with a daughter being married
in the middle of it! And at the end of
the day (after revising the reception seating chart, hauling our juggler/magician
son’s props to and from another festival, having a book club discussion with my
college daughter, clearing up the dinner dishes, pulling the 18-month old
grandson off the backs of the furniture and the top of the piano, playing
jungle rules badminton on the front lawn…) well, I chose knitting over blogging
about knitting every time.
And I am grateful beyond measure for the portable
pick-it-up-and-put-it-down-and-pick-it-up-again nature of knitting. I have knit in the car and in bed, on the back
deck and on the ferry, while hanging out at festivals, while playing board
games, during movies, during discussions, over coffee, over a glass of
wine. I am beginning to sound like
Sam-I-Am!
I finished Max’s knit trousers (to match the sweater) days
before Sonja’s wedding – which is, I think, a personal best. I am chugging away at the capelet Sasha asked
me to make for her – it is a summer piece to wear over sundresses. Hey, summer is not over yet! And, fortunately, she attends college in Santa Clara where summer
stretches until November. My own
Forbidden Summer Sweater is in progress (it is the one I began when I was not
supposed to begin a new project and continues to be great fun to knit). Maybe I can wear a long-sleeve t-shirt under
it this winter.
It seems I have done a fair amount of knitting after
all.
And now I am contemplating Beach Knitting: what to take on our annual 2-week trip to the
Oregon Coast.
Which sounds like a good blog topic – if I can sneak in another session
on my computer while my needles are napping.
