My husband George asked:
With so many projects going, do you ever get them mixed up?
He had not even read my last blog posting (which shows how
much psycho-connection you can build up during 27 years of marriage).
I pointed out that, as he spoke, he was both stewing prunes
and barbequing lamb – did he get them mixed up?
They are totally different processes.
And if I am knitting a cable piece and a lace piece, I, too, am involved
in totally different processes and will not mix them up. If, however, I have two similar lace pieces
going, I will end up having to think more consciously about each one.
Anyhow, the whole conversation got me thinking about what
that great knitting tool (and possibly the largest: the barbeque.
Now, I am about to make some rather sweeping generalizations
here, so please note that I am speaking about what I have encountered in my own
experiences. Certainly, others may find
things different in their own lives.
Just as I would never dictate a particular cast on (though I am partial
to the Italian and the Old Norwegian), I would never try to tell another
knitter how to live her/his own life.
BUT if you live with
a man
AND if you and that
man tend to eat dinner most evenings
AND if evening is prime knitting time for you
AND if you don’t own a barbeque
You might want to GET YOURSELF ONE!
