So, this afternoon, I had some quiet time and could have
settled down with the nice complicated front-left of the Joyful Ferocity or the
Gull Pi Shawl (I’m still in love….) or the baby blanket or the baby matinee
jacket or the Short-Row Tapestry Stole (which is so free-form that it is kind
of like coloring with yarn).  But I did
none of these.

I dinked around on Ravelry instead.

And now the family is starting to come home and I am kind of
regretting the quiet knitting-time-that-might-have-been.

But I think I needed the Ravelry-dink-around.  I think I miss the knitters from Madrona and
Stitches West.  Even though Sarah and I
talk about knitting everyday.  Even
though we have our darling beginner knitters (Monday afternoon class – we love
you guys!).  I think I just needed to
hear what other knitters are saying, see what they are doing.  Had to give my opinion about twisting stitches.   Had to make my pitch for using wool yarn for
baby blankets.

It is kind of a funny thing, this knitting community
thing.  Maybe it is like being in a
foreign land and hearing your native tongue.
Sometimes, I would just like to wear a hand-knit garment like it was a
normal thing.  Or knit in public without
anyone making a big deal out of it.   Not
that the attention isn’t flattering and, occasionally, good for business.  It is just that even a bohemian wants to
blend sometimes.

So, I just melted into my knitting community for a
while.
