We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at the Oregon
Coast with 39 of our nearest and
dearest (the only family member missing was our son Geoff who is studying at
the London Dramatic Academy).   Although I came home exhausted from all the
activity (very little of which involved knitting), I am feeling all revved up
for Christmas.

I am even feeling pretty okay with
not-knitting-for-Christmas.  Though I
have to credit the flurry of gift-knitting (not related to Christmas) with
keeping me on the straight and narrow.
There are photos of my Dad in his cabled hat (which he loved) and photos
of my Mom and my grand-daughter, Gwen, in their matching hats (which I loved).  And photos of the chic little urban kimono I
knit for my niece Emilia’s baby (there was a baby shower, among the family
activities this year).  And when I get my
tech-support people to put the photos in my computer, I will post them.

Meanwhile, I am counting on my non-gift knitting projects to
keep me distracted from not-knitting-for-Christmas.  And, of course, there are Christmas cards to
write and halls to deck and parties and such now – the really dangerous part
was November.   Last year, I collapsed en
route to our Thanksgiving gathering at the beach – and the result was about a
mile of knitted scarf!

So, Thanksgiving has come and gone – and I am not a yarn
ball heavier.  My project list has
actually decreased because I finished
the cabled hat and baby kimono.

If I were to examine my feelings, I would probably find that
I miss making Christmas gifts, but I am just not going to think about it.  Why invite some sort of mad inspiration at
this point? Okay, just the phrase “mad inspiration” gets me kind of excited –
so I had better focus on snowflakes or sugar cookies or something like that,
quick!
