When my kids were growing up, we always had Holiday Outfits – special (often coordinating) outfits for the Holiday Season starting with Thanksgiving since my side of the family always gets together for Thanksgiving (and I wanted my kids to look cute for that, of course!).  Sometimes I sewed their outfits – and then the days before Thanksgiving were a little tense, as I was usually behind!  But even if I was sewing buttons on during the Macys Parade, they got done by Thanksgiving dinner.

Now that I knit much more than I sew, Thanksgiving week sees me frantically knitting grandbaby sweaters!  This year, I am making a sort of “Hansel & Gretel” set for Max and Gwen.  Gwen’s skirt is done, though the suspenders are not.  Max’s jacket is nearly done.  Now, since Sarah is staying in town this Thanksgiving (with Sonja & Jordan since they could not go to Oregon with the rest of us because of Owen’s birth), I figured Max and Gwen probably did not really need their Holiday Outfits for Thanksgiving – and that I could finish them up next week when I get back from Oregon.

Well, I was wrong.  Holiday Outfits are supposed to be ready for Thanksgiving – and since I was the one who raised their mother in this belief, I cannot really fight it at this point!  Sarah offered to take Max’s jacket and knit the front bands and collar – it was then that I realized how much it meant to her for the children to wear them on Thanksgiving!  And as soon as I am done typing this, I am going to settle myself in my living room leather chair and not move until I have the suspenders done.

There are Thanksgiving traditions and standards in every family and apparently Holiday Outfits are a big part of ours!
