I am starting a new project! (see, no rationalizations, no excuses, no “well, it got gray and it looks like it’s going to rain…” just a straightforward: Knitters, rejoice with me for I starting a new project!)  I started it in the sense that I have the pattern in hand – the yarn and needles are in transit because I just ordered them.  But in my mind, I have started.

Actually, it all happened so fast – sort of boom, boom, boom like fireworks!

Boom! Franklin Habit put up a blog post about his “Big D-mn Pineapple (1840)” pattern.

Boom! I read the post and told Sarah (with teeny-bopper excitement) that I had actually seen the actual pineapple bag at Madrona when I took Franklin’s class on antique patterns.

Boom!  I jetted (virtually) over to Knitty (a fabulous on-line knitting magazine, by the way) and read his article and looked over the pattern.

Boom! I printed the pattern.

Boom! I realized it would make an ideal travel project for my spring trips.

Boom! I started exploring yarn possibilities and Boom! got inspired to use linen instead of silk and Boom! got inspired to make it in neutral colors instead of the traditional yellow and green.

Then, I was ordering Louet Euroflax Sport Weight in champagne (for the body) and sandalwood (for the leaves) and sighing happily.

(Good Heavens, I just read over what I wrote and it sounds a lot like…well, never mind)

Anyhow, the neutral colors idea came from a pineapple teapot I have had for years.

I ordered the yarn from Paradise Fibers and I get free 3-day shipping (the cost of yarn plus the Addi-Tubo Lace circ put me over the $100 mark…hmm, yeah, go big or go home, right?).  I don’t know how that works with the weekend, but having a few days to work diligently on my current projects is probably a good thing.  And I really plan this for a travel project, like I said – so I should have time to get it underway for my trip to North Carolina at the end of the month.
