Even if the weather (which is gorgeous – hot in the sun
& cool in the shade) and the light (golden in the afternoon and absolutely
poignant near evening) and the trees (rattling their dry and yellowing leaves)
did not tell me that autumn is on its way, I would know by the sudden churning
creativity in my brain. Every summer, my
creative sense oozes or perks prettily, but come autumn it explodes into
action!
That explains why I am designing lacey sockw and swatching my alpaca Color
Block sweater – even though the days are so warm and sunshiney that I cannot
imagine wanting to put on socks (even lacey ones!) much less an alpaca
pullover! And why I have searing visionary
flashes of projects that are hibernating – so powerful that I turn to the cat
and declare “I AM going to finish that!” (the cat is neither impressed nor
holding her breath….).
The reach of this creativity tsunami is so great that I find
myself enthusiastically knitting away on projects that are already in my knitting bag, projects that I have been
working on for weeks, projects that should, by all accounts, bore me to tears
(especially the blandest of garter stitch projects). But, no, they are incandescent with glamour –
for no reason except the fact that they are unfinished pieces that can be
worked upon in an on-going act of creation.
This autumn-fired is a tremendous gift – even if it makes me
seem as mad as a March (um, September) hare.
It moves me to finish what is un-finished, envision what might be, and
tackle what is probably going to be a lot a lot a lot of work!
Ho, September, bring it on, baby!
