I love December days.
I have that nice buzzy purposefulness going on inside my head – and all
around me is the cool gray peace of the natural world at rest. A solitary crow flying across the clouded sky
and maybe a little fadey patch of blue behind the silhouette of black bare
branches. With night descending so early
now, there is a preciousness to even the dim light of a rainy day.
I am even feeling pretty good about the Christmas Knitting
today. Oh, the occasional wave of
panic….but no serious misgivings or worries as yet. It helped to read The yarn Harlot’s blog –
heck, she has yet to start a “largish pair of socks” and is ripping back an
entire (albeit child-sized sweater). And
she is still waiting on yarn that she has ordered! Admittedly, she knits about 10 times as fast
as I do, but if she is not panicking, I am not panicking.
We can both panic later in the month. Knitterly camaraderie.
I am in the midst of all by Christmas Knitting projects – my
“spinning plate style” (remember the old Ed Sullivan show act where the guy had
about a dozen plates spinning on sticks and would run back and forth between
them to keep them spinning – for those of you too young to remember, yep, we
watched that…). I sort of herd them all
along toward the 25th like a flock of sheep. So, nothing is actually done yet. At least, that is my usual M.O. I actually am planning to complete 3
particular projects, as well as the Extensive Sewing Project, by next weekend (Sarah & her family
arrive from North Carolina
on the 15th – so that is my impetus).
Superstitious souls may say I am tempting fate to lay out my
plans so blatantly. But I am all for
raising my hopes to the skies! Those
peaceful gray skies with the crow and the fadey patch of blue behind the black
bare branches. And God – the Creator of
creativity – surely blesses the work of our hands when it is done with love and
such childlike enthusiasm!
