I have a tremendous to-do list today — things that have been piling up and really must get done soon. So I have been playing "Lesser Evils/May As Well/What If You…."
It goes like this.
First I look at the list and realize that I would rather, say, start the laundry than dust the living room (this is the Lesser Evils part). After that, I might decide that I would rather answer emails than dust the living room — so I do that.
In the course of answering the emails, I might decide to clean out my email box since I am sitting at the computer (this is the May As Well part — technically, this should be something that is actually on the to-do list, but if it something that should be on the list or is an on-going battle or is one of those odd tasks I never get around to doing, well that is okay too).
So, I dance around with Lesser Evils and May As Wells until George comes home. Then, I take a look at what is left on the list and suggest to him: What if You dust the living room while I hand-wash the china…? (And before you cry "Foul!" let me point out that he has been having a lovely day on the golf course and before he left he agreed to participate in house-cleaning when he got back!)
So, we What If You for a while — and before you know it, we are down to the tasks I despise and, oh yes, knitting. Soooo, guess what I do next! (well, at least the living room will get dusted….)
