I have been prioritizing my projects and the baby knits have jumped to the top of the list. With 3 great-nieces/nephews due this summer, I knew I had to get hopping.
( If any of my mom-to-be nieces happen to be reading the blog today, this is where you might avert your eyes and move on to another website!)
The first project (the vivid red & blue yarns in the top photo) is a fun blanket from Tricia Drake’s “Welcoming Home Baby the Handcrafted Way” called Hexagonal Hoodie (tho since I am not planning to put the hood part on — so it will simply be a Hexagonal Blanket). The yarns are bulky so the blanket will be kinda smoothly and a great lay-on-the-floor spot for the baby (and since this baby has an active big brother, we thought a bright & well- defined baby “island” might be a good idea).
The second project is Elizabeth Zimmermann’s 2-Piece Baby Jacket from “Knit One Knit All.” A simple, clever garter garment to be done in the lovely Frogtree Ewetopia yan in the second photo. And probably a pair of Star Booties (from the same book) to go with it — tho I have had poor luck in making matching pieces that fit the baby at the same time! But these should be useful and sweet whether they are worn together or not.
The third project is going to my own design — a little Nordic vest (and maybe a matching hat!). I ordered some Palette yarn from KnitPicks. The third photo below is the stitch pattern I plan to use — very authentic from Vibeke Lind’s “Knitting in the Nordic Tradition” (this one is found in Finland — where my family comes from).
