Sometimes one is rewarded for doing a good deed. In this case, our son Geoff had asked us to drop some papers off at a theater in Portland where he had performed this winter — since George and I were going to visit my Mother who lives near Portland. Well, it was a bit out of our way, but certainly do-able — so, like good parents, we said yes. That was on Thursday.
Skip back to, oh, probably Tuesday of that week, and you would find me on fire with the idea of making a Pie Are Square Shawl — which is a classic Elizabeth Zimmermann design concept that is related to her Pi Shawl. The Pie Are Square Shawl is a half circle at the back with long rectangular extensions at the front. When worn, it looks rather like a jacket! I had looked through the many projects and adaptations on Ravelry and was completely smitten. Sarah and I had decided that Tosh Merino Light was the way to go (we are both making Pi Shawls with it now — and I have another such project bundled up in a bag….um, but I digress…).
As George and I were driving to Portland, I happened to remember that Sarah had been to "Knit Purl" — a very, very nice yarn shop — and that it was somewhere in the area of Geoff's theater. We looked it up and found that it was only three blocks from the theater — and that they did indeed carry Tosh Merino Light. Well, it seemed meant to be! So after dropping the papers at the theater, we dashed over to "Knit Purl" and while they did not have a lot of Tosh Merino Light, they did have 3 skeins (the amount I needed) in a fabulous tonal brown color way called "Badlands" (the color I wanted!). A lovely skein of Hand Maiden Flaxen (silk & linen blend) also followed me out of the shop.
Meanwhile, the KnitPicks Gloss (merino/silk) yarn I ordered was winging its way to our house.
All pretty fabulous!
But, oh, "A Good Week For Yarn: Part 3" will blow your mind!!
