I found some fabulous stitch patterns for the Beachy Q’mitl in Barbara Walker’s 2nd book of knitting patterns. Including Ribbed Leaf Pattern which “is reminiscent of the shapes of fossilized fern leaves traced in rock” and Duro-Europos Patterns which “come from the oldest known pieces of knitting in existence” (dated before 256 A.D.). Real honest-to-goodness knitting fossils!
I decided that I needed some linen for this piece. And that, surely, I had some off-white linen yarn tucked away somewhere. It was something of an archeological dig, but I finally unearthed a skein of handspun linen that I probably bought at a fair some years ago. It was a bit scraggly and winding it was challenging, but it is really quite beautiful and should be a delightful addition to my fossil-y shell-y bone-y beach party!
