I am feeling a little crazy right now — and am not at all sure that one should be writing a blog post in this state of mind, but this is the only state of mind I have available to me at the moment — and I just really felt like checking in before I head out to Bellingham tomorrow (with Sonja* for a girls’ getaway weekend!) and before flying to Elko, Nevada to visit Sasha* & Dave on Tuesday (a weeklong visit & I am so excited to spend time with them and see their new house!) and before Geoff* and his girlfriend Cait arrive (2 weeks from today — 2 days after we get back from Elko — and you will notice that I leave for Elko a day after returning from my weekend in Elko…..so maybe you are starting to understand why I am a little crazy tonight!) anyhow they are coming from New York for a week’s visit & I am so excited to see them too!
Meanwhile, George* and I (with Sonja’s help) have been moving his mother into the Memory Care unit in her retirement community this week. She is 94 and has been in frail health this spring & summer, but has been pretty stable now and we decided to go ahead and move her into The Garden House where she can get the most appropriate care. It is a lovely place — brand new — and we are glad to have her there. That said, of course the whole process has been exhausting and a bit wearing emotionally. She could not really understand why we were moving her, so it was kind of traumatic for her temporarily, but once she got kind of settled, she started to adjust pretty well. She seems happy and comfortable now — and, honestly, in a few days she is unlikely to remember that she was living anywhere else.
Which all explains why I am a little crazy and why I have not posted anything for a week. But does not answer any of your more burning questions about 1)whether or not I have finished the Blues Inverted Cardigan yet and 2) how the baby knitting coming is coming along and 3) did I break down and start working on the Autumn Q’mitl yet?
1) No, but I am about to graft the two linen twisted stockinette sections together (the set-up for this has taken about 2 hours of work! good thing I am so stubborn) (um, and wish me luck — I am flying by the seat of my pants on this grafting twisted stockinette thing)
2) Slowly — but it will be terrific travel knitting! (Not to worry, Sarah*, Sprout’s layette has top priority!)
3) Yes! and the multi-colored Noro Shiraito (45% cashmere, 45% angora, 10% wool) is an absolute dream to knit! The swatch was so lovely I almost cried.
So the plan tonight is to graft the twisted stockinette while mentally packing for Bellingham, mentally prepping for Elko, mentally planning for our visitors from New York. Yep.
