I have been knitting in front of the Olympics every evening and here are the results: Gwen’s Flamingo, Evelyn’s Heart Hat, and 3 of Sarah’s dishcloths (there is a 4th one, but it is a surprise so I cannot put up a photo until she receives them in the mail next week!).
I have made a second Heart Hat (to go with a baby shawl for my friend Joyce’s new grand-daughter) and have finished my Nordic Slippers (I will take a photo of them after I block them). And Evelyn’s Yzma Blanket? I will start knitting the edging tonight!
So, much progress made!
My ‘Hawks Socks are progressing as well. I just finished the heel gussets and am on the “home stretch” (the foot). Of the first one. I am crossing my toes in hopes of warding off Second Sock Syndrome! But the pattern is just interesting enough to be fun without being so complex as to slow me down. And I am pretty eager to have a new pair of socks to wear!
A couple of notes on Gwen’s Flamingo. I used Chris de Longpre’s “Feathers” pattern (www.KnittingAtKNoon.com) for the body, neck, and legs (the legs & feet are adorable!). But I improvised the beak (to be more flamingo-like) using the same clever short-rowing she used for the neck. I borrowed dove wings from Lesley Stanfield’s “75 Birds, Butterflies & Little Beasties to Knit and Crochet” and used the Yarn Knot Eyes technique from http://www.knittycat.vox.com. And then I planted a plume-a-licious tail!
Photographing Gwen’s Flamingo was challenging. Obviously, it could not stand on its I-cord legs (I’m good, but not that good!). And there was no way to get it to sit on the edge of the table with its legs dangling. I finally managed to balance it on a glass vase — but then it looked like it was “doing its business”! So, I got George to hold her for the quick photo shoot. I hope Sarah will take some (much cuter!) photos of Gwen holding her Flamingo when it arrive in North Carolina next week!
