What is it about Spring that makes me want to do a little sewing, a little crocheting? The nudge to sew came to me when I was at the fabric & craft store getting supplies for a bridal shower. I passed through the linen aisle while searching for burlap (burlap is very hot right now — especially for weddings! who knew?!) and a tobacco colored bolt of linen fabric caught my eye, silently begging to come home with me and become a Very Useful Spring/Summer Skirt. I resisted at first, but, somehow, when we lined up at the cutting counter with our burlap, the bolt of linen was in our cart. A very skinny bolt, as it turned out — just a yard and three-quarters (I got the 3/4 at remnant price– ca-ching!). Just enough for a skirt. Like it was meant to be!
The call to crochet was a bit more direct. Tho, unfortunately, I can not tell you about it now as it is a Surprise that cannot be mentioned on the blog just yet! Suffice it to say that in the course of hunting out a pattern for the Surprise, I came across the most adorable flower coasters. Jardain Crochet Coaster on http://versusmag.blogspot.com/2011/08/jardain-crochet-coaster-tutorial-with.html. I immediately dug out the orange and gold Cascade 220 skeins I had received for Easter a couple of years ago. And I am well on my way to having a set of Spring/Summer coasters!
I am also posting a photo of Gwen with her knitted Flamingo. They seem to enjoying each other’s company very much!
Happy Spring, Everybody!
