Suddenly, temperatures have jumped into the 70s and it feels like July! Time to start some summer knitting — before it really is July. And I seem to have some on the needles already 🙂
The gray lacy bit is the start (or actually the re-start) of a drapey vest type thing (I am not crazy about the word “vest” — maybe because there have been so many unfortunate knitted and crocheted vest patterns…). I had begun it a couple of summers ago, but when I resurrected it, I realized that the lacework was mushy. So I ripped it out and re-cast the stitch patterns. The yarn is a divine (and discontinued) Isager cotton.
Conflicted tho I clearly am over knitted vest type things, I am embarking on another one. Blame the Broomstick Knitted Lace images that have danced through the Internet lately. Here I have swatched some at different gauges (after learning the technique from a YouTube video). The yarn is a merry hand-painted merino/tencel blend I fished out of my stash. Now that I have settled on the medium gauge (US 4 — the top section of the swatch), I am forcing myself to make a nice big swatch with only the size 4s so I can get a true gauge sample before working my numbers — as I will be casting on for a 54 inch wide piece!
And what would Summer be without socks? Well, truth to tell, I rarely wear socks in summer. But these will be “yoga socks” which have no heel or toe! Just a fun bit of ankle and instep color — to go with my aqua leather boat shoes!
