We had a delightful bridal shower for my niece Abi last weekend. And in the glowing aftermath, as I was happily contemplating the seaside nuptials to come in June, I realized that I am supposed to be knitting a blanket for a wedding gift! Aack! (except it was 4 different letters — er, 2 of 4 different letters)
I hopped into Ravelry and immediately started trolling “knit blankets” for an idea, an inspiration, maybe even a pattern. Oh my there are a lot of possibilities when it comes to knit blankets on Ravelry! (If you have 10 or 12 hours with nothing to do, you might check them out) Anyhow, I got lucky! Stephen West’s “Kex Blanket” http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kex-blanket — sophisticated and urban and downright gorgeous — in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter yarn. It is so gorgeous, in fact, that (uncharacteristically!) I could not bring myself to even explore other yarn possibilities. Nope. Not even other colors of Shelter. It is superb the way it is and I am not going to mess with it. I am just going to knit it. I salute you, Mr. West! (And you too, Mr. Flood — I ordered the yarn yesterday)
And what do I see sprawled out on my desk? Knitting? No, crochet! A crocheted Viking helmet (nearly complete — I have to attach the horns) for Owen.
And what else do I see? Needlepoint?! Why yes, yes it is. Just a little entertainment I dug out of my “embroidery projects to be completed” drawer. (And you thought I only had unfinished knitting projects! Still waters run deep… and who knows what else is lurking in those murky depths?)
So, is this the WartyBobbler we know and love? Crocheting and needlepointing and scrupulously following another designer’s design down to the smallest detail? We all go a little crazy in May, right? Okay, well I do. And lest I become entirely unrecognize-able, you will find me this evening in my usual chair watching the Mariners and knitting away on one (or possibly all) of 6 different projects — 4 of which are my own design.
