I am pleased to report that Owen loves his crocheted Viking helmet. I presented it to him on Mother’s Day — along with 2 foam swords from the Dollar Store (because I am a wily old Yzma who knows what will grab the attention of a 2-yr-old — and, yes, I did have parental consent).
Owen is a great fan of the movie “How to Train Your Dragon” — which is what inspired me to make the Viking helmet (altho, truth to tell, Sarah and I have been plotting a Viking helmet for him since he was an infant).
Sword fights ensued, naturally, with cries of “Vikings!” and “Dragon!”as well as general guttural exclamations. And I admit to having a painful crick in my back for the next day or so — due to holding my left arm back and up as per my college fencing training…but I digress.
What absolutely tickled me was Owen’s persistence in putting on the Viking helmet prior to any swordplay. It was necessary equipment! Is there any greater tribute than that?!
