I am obsessed with the QSQ (“Quick” Summer Q’mitl) and would like to knit on nothing else right now. The yarns, the stitch patterns, the feel of the piece just suit my late July mood perfectly!
I have swatched up some ideas for edgings — after pawing through dozens of edging patterns and realizing that edgings, as such, did not fit the vision. These, then, are panel patterns. Narrow ones that, when fitted out with appropriate selvedge treatment, should do the job nicely. And, gosh, doesn’t the Pima cotton yarn show the patterns exquisitely?! So crisp even before blocking 🙂
The one embellishment I envision, but have not yet worked out yet will attach at the vertical seam line of the 2 Q’mitl sections: two fins of the brassy silk/mohair shaped like slices of circles (like semi-circles, but less of the circle — my geometry lingo fails me here), one large than the other. Some kind of short-rowing, no doubt. But we have a ways to go before that.
And, no, I have not exactly abandoned all my other summer projects to go honeymooning with the QSQ. I am doing the finishing on Max’s “M” and will move on to Evelyn’s “E” and then Owen’s “O.”
I have been dragging the Gyre Cardigan around with me — eternal rows of endless twisted rib! Sigh. And I have just been re-acquainting myself with the Linum Tee — which I really ought be to able to finish in time to wear during our beach vacation next month.
The Bokeh Tank has been tapping its toes nervously in my studio, but I have assured it that it will be ideal for September (all the while thinking how stunning it will be under the QSQ!) and promising to pick it up as soon as I finish the Linum Tee.
So, that said, I think I will slip out to the back deck for a little summer knitting in the sun!
