I’m back! Having spent the last week in Halloween Costume Land — sewing a classy vampire cape for Owen, a linen shirt to go with George’s Robin Hood costume (which Sarah and I made a few years ago) and designing and making a full Sheriff of Nottingham costume for myself. George and I went to an event Saturday night with friends who dressed as Friar Tuck and Maid Marion. Our group won 1st Prize for costumes! Nice!
But here, at last, are photos of the Quintessential Summer Q’mitl. I finished it in late October, but did not get around to photographing it until today — tho I have worn it several times and love it! It is gray and rainy now, but it is really not chilly yet — so the QSQ has been comfortable to wear when my woolier Q’mitls would be too warm. It would work over a heavier sweater too — so maybe it is simply the QQ!
And it has an added (and somewhat accidental!) feature: a charming little loose mohair piece that I call its “goldfish” and which I use with a shawl stick when I want to gather in the Q’mitl a bit. I had knit the mohair piece thinking I would stitch it on as an accent, but it just didn’t look right anywhere. Then, as I was playing around with it I was inspired to just sort of “stick” it on — and loved it! I think I will be knitting goldfish for all my future Q’mitls!
