The weather here is glorious this week! The girls and I went down to the waterfront with the kids for lunch with my visiting sister — it is a perfect "Show off Tacoma" day and it is a great week for the U.S. Open here in University Place.
Summer officially begins in a few days and so any sensible knitter will be sitting out on her back deck planning her autumn knitting: sweaters, scarves, gloves, hats….. WHAT?!!! Who wants to look at photos of woolies in fall colors among pumpkins and corn stalks in June?!
What a dilemma for the knitting magazine guys. Sure, they can fill up the summer issues with all sorts of "Fun in the Sun" pieces, but really they should be pointing us to autumn projects. But how to do that when no one wants to think about autumn yet?
Enter the "Beach Photo Shoot." All those turquoise hoodies and driftwood-colored beanies and cotton scarves draped loosely over models on sunny beaches? Autumn knitting disguised as beach-wear! Heck, you can put them all in cable sweaters as long as they are wearing board shorts and bikini bottoms and are grouped around a bonfire roasting weenies!
Brilliant!
