And how is the Christmas Knitting coming along?
Slowly. I have been battling Fair Isle gauge since before Thanksgiving — and I have the finger graveyard to prove it! Turns out that when I thought I was knitting a glove, I was actually knitting little tube-y swatches. But the facts are that if the knitting is too tight, the glove will not fit. It is not just a matter of aesthetics. So, there was nothing for it but to change needles and move on…then change needles again and move on….then change needles again and move on….Anyhow, I am working at the correct gauge now and making progress. I am not keeping up with my "2 Fingers A Day" schedule (tho it is a beautiful schedule — I have a "12 Christmas Cards A Day" to go with it!). But my efficiency is increasing — so, hope dances like sugarplums in my head.
My other project has turned into a design project. So, once again I have been knitting swatches inadvertently. I play around with a bit of knitting, do the math, and launch my project — totally forgetting that this is uncharted (literally) territory and I am working off a map I have made up in my head. And I keep reeling in shock because the piece does not flow off my needles like your go-to baby hat pattern (you know, the one you knit in the car on the way to the baby shower). Well, I will be ripping back what I knit while watching "The Homecoming" tonight — and having a little consult with Sarah tomorrow.
Which, I see, it already is. Tomorrow, I mean.
