Yesterday was The Eve of The Eve of Christmas Eve — that is what we used say when I was a little girl. Today is The Eve of Christmas Eve.
Is it just my taste in Pandora stations or is "Baby It's Cold Outside" the most recorded holiday song?
George and I did the Christmas grocery shopping this afternoon. It was like The End Times in Fred Meyer! People mobbing the aisles and scooping up cans of cranberry sauce and bottles of champagne from half-empty shelves. Scooting through store without a cart was like riding a bike on the freeway. Fortunately, when I dashed into the baking aisle to grab a "3 for $5" powdered sugar coupon, I was able to travel behind a big guy with a heavy cart who was just a little bit aggressive — or I might have been stuck in the gridlock til the store closed. Our own cart got so heavy that I had to push while George pulled it along. It was like a tank!
It was all we could do to drag ourselves into Safeway after we finished at Freddy's — for butter flake rolls and peppermint ice cream. I don't think anyone is making peppermint ice cream this year…but we got the butter flake rolls! Yes!
On the home front, my cards are pretty much written and sent, gifts are pretty much wrapped, the house is decorated, the baking is underway, and my Christmas Knitting is well over half-way done. Which is pretty much the way it always goes. And the family informs me that it is no shocking surprise to them that those who will be receiving hand-knits will be receiving them a little later on in the Christmas Season (there are, as the song says, 12 Days of Christmas!). So, tomorrow I am going to relax and enjoy Christmas Eve — and do little knitting while I hum along to "Baby, It's Cold Outside."
The time of preparation is nearly complete. It is very nearly time to rejoice! God bless us all and fill our hearts and lighten our lives! Merry Christmas!
