As I began to introduce the personalities of my knitting projects, The 12-Year-Old leapt up and begged to be next!
The 12-Year-Old
She is the Aegean Q'mitl — and is as energetic and enthusiastic as a young colt! The yarn is primarily linen which has a bounce and vitality I love — but which can tire me out, I confess! (Cotton and linen yarns do not have the give that animal fibers do — so knitting than is more wearing to the hand muscles — true fact) The lace patterns in this piece are pretty, but not in the least complicated — so they move along quickly. This piece wants to get done! It is happy to go anywhere, too, and is the project I take out on the back deck when the grandkids are on the loose with squirt guns. She likes to come along to pedicure appointments, Starbucks, the spray park. And I think she will be just as easy to wear around once she is done.
Like any 12-year-old, she is heartbreakingly beautiful and full of promise. I think I will end up writing up the Aegean Q'mitl pattern for our Pelagia Fiber Arts collection. In the meantime, I am having such fun this brilliant and boisterous piece π
