October has been super busy here!  And our preparations for Halloween this year have included building costumes and constructing carnival games for our golf club’s annual Family Halloween Party.  So, on Sunday, George and I decided to take a day off.  We watched football and baseball all day — and I did a lot of knitting on a variety of projects 🙂 I tried not to even think about Halloween.

And oddly enough, with Halloween (temporarily) banished from my brain, Christmas snuck in!

There I was watching the Seahawks and knitting on a baby sweater sleeve, when visions of sugarplums started cavorting in my head.  Like:

Oooo, maybe I could knit slipper socks for the everyone in the family!

Oooo, or maybe hats.  But maybe slipper socks….

And:

Oh yes!  I have that pattern by Sarah Shiraz for those adorable gnomes!  I can just see adorable knit gnomes perched on widow sills and tucked in amongst the greens!

And, oh, my, yes, I almost forgot about the crocodile stitch crochet pine cones by Yarn Freak that I wanted to make!  I can just see adorable crocheted pine cones dangling from the coat rack, the archway, the antlers! (note to self:  have George hang his father’s antlers)

So, yeah, the candy corn is not even gone yet and the Christmas Crazy is already howling at the door! (is that a mixed metaphor?)

Well, fortunately, Monday dawned and Halloween was back in my life.  Sarah helped me with the scarecrow costumes (Scarecrows?! Yup.  I wanted something George and I could move in pretty well while we are running carnival games — and also something very recognizable so we don’t have to keep explaining what we are supposed to be).

We put the finishing touches on the carnival games.  And we are “go” for Halloween!  One of my favorite days of the year!  But I suspect that tomorrow night when the goblins have been all tricked and treated and tucked into bed, visions of gnomes and pine cones and perhaps even slipper sock will come tiptoeing into my head….
