Spring EXPLODED here a couple of weeks ago! We went from an inch of snow to 75 degrees in a matter of days! Crazy. But I kept my focus. I did not abandon wool for cotton and linen. I did not swatch lace. I only day-dreamed a little bit about shawl patterns. I have been SO CLOSE to finishing my Winter/Spring projects for a month now (knitters will understand how you can be “SO CLOSE to finishing” for several weeks — it means somewhere past the midpoint of the project — sorta “downhill from here” thinking although that is not necessarily an accurate assessment of the situation). I have been SO CLOSE that I really feel I can do it this year.
I am determined to complete the Winter/Springs before I cast on the Spring/Summers. Tonight that means sewing 10 buttons on my 3-in-1 Boots and working as many rows of Brioche as I can before crawling off to bed — where I will do a long, long garter row while reading a chapter of the mystery on my Kindle. It sounds a bit like trudgery and drudgery, but it is actually pleasantly peaceful knitting.
Thank heaven for Baseball Season! The rhythms of baseball jive beautifully with the rhythms of knitting. So, I have made good use of the opening Mariners series (the Mariners have ALSO made good use of those series — with a 7-1 record so far! Go Ms!!). With March Madness basketball, I had to stick with the kind of knitting I could work practically by feel — ya gotta look at the screen with basketball. But during baseball, I can keep an easy “down and up” movement going as I glance at my knitting then swoop my gaze up to the screen and down to my knitting again. Works for my Brioche knitting and the ribbed collar on the Plath Boxy Cardigan (Shellie Anderson). So that has been productive 🙂
But even with all this diligent wool-knitting going on, one has to face the fact the Spring/Summer knitting season is approaching (or has arrived if one has finished one’s Winter/Springs). So, when HiKoo announced their new Concentric Cotton yarns, I pounced! Hard. These are 929-yd cakes with a color sequence that lasts through the entire 929 yds. For example, you start with teal then go to mint then to gold then to aqua — end of yarn cake. Sooooo….

Clearly, I still have some thinking to do on these. But that will be lovely to ponder while I sew on buttons tonight.
