I had told myself — sometime in early May — that on June 1st (or thereabouts) I would open the Bin of Summer Knitting.  By then I would have (theoretically) finished some of the Spring Knitting and be ready to pick up where I had left off on some of last year’s projects of the more cotton-y and linen-y variety.  The projects that — when balmy September mellowed into chilly October — slithered off to the Bin of Summer Knitting to hibernate.

So, with George’s Shawl finished and the grandkids’ Bunny Slippers completed —

Note:  The Bunny Slippers took a LOT more time than anticipated!  Since each grandkid has 2 feet and there are 5 grandkids.  And even tho I only put ears and tails on the girls’ slippers (at the boys’ request) that is still 12 individually knit ears and 6 rather ineptly created pom pom tails!  Lots of sewing up and sewing down of bunny parts.  But well worth it as the kids loved them!

But on to the Bin of Summer Knitting!

So, with the Spring Knitting somewhat completed and/or moving along nicely, I was feeling bold on June 3rd and hauled out the Bin of Summer Knitting and opened it up.  Yup, there it all was.  Yawning sweetly and blinking fresh eyes at me.  And as I began pulling out bags of knitting and yarn, I remembered some other project or other that had not actually made it to the Bin, but was huddled under a table in a back bedroom.   And as I pulled out more bags of knitting, I recalled seeing the packages of yarn that went with this project or that project stowed on the window seat in another bedroom.   And as this went on, I decided I might as well bring over the Spring Knitting to join the party.

Indeed, at this point it did look like a party!  With so many various totes and bags scattered over the floor and  furniture spilling bright, beautiful knitting projects.  As if the members of a knitting circle had been suddenly called into the other room for refreshments!  Rather than feeling overwhelmed at the sight of the half-knit sweaters, partially-knit shawls, and in-process q’mitls, I felt kind of cheerful and excited.  Summer was going to be so much fun!

So, I did a little organizing.  Petting this project, popping that project into a better-fitting bag, gathering all the packages of project yarns (the balls and skeins not currently attached to needles) and nestling them into the Bin (where I will be able to find them when I am ready for the next one!), making a few photocopies of stitch patterns from books (because I am trying not to leave my reference and pattern books in random knitting bags — where they are off the grid sometimes for months, especially if the project goes into hibernation…).  And then I lined up the Summer Knitting bags and thought, yup, there is a lot of knitting to be done.

Which is a good thing 🙂
