The Baby Knitting and the Spring Knitting are both progressing.  Tho the Baby Knitting has taken a sudden leap into the lead — as I seem to have a new layette set creeping onto the needles!

My 6-yr-old granddaughter Evelyn should be pleased.  The other day when I was showing Sarah (her mother) my Mermaid Sweater (the green lace one — which someone pointed out is “Starbucks Green” and since I got the inspiration at the Starbucks drive-through window [along with a Tall Flat White — yum!] and since the lace pattern resembles a mermaid tail…well, the name suits, doesn’t it?!) anyhow, when I was showing it to Sarah, Evelyn looked up at me, batted her big beautiful brown eyes and said, in a soft, sweet voice that so completely contradicted the reproach of her words that one could not possibly accuse her of impertinence:  Shouldn’t we be concentrating on The Baby? (Well played, Evelyn, well played!)

As The Baby is due any day now, I think I am “knitting nesting” — in true grandmother tradition!  So when Churchmouse Yarns & Teas dangled the Baby Wrap Sweater ,as well as an accompanying bootie pattern and hat pattern in their email offering this morning….well, you cannot toss that kind of thing out to a “knitting nesting” grandmother who is drumming her fingers and jumping whenever her phone goes off and not expect her to grab it!  (Well played, Churchmouse, well played!)

Then, I showed George my new patterns — and he said they were adorable and knew much, much better than to say anything along the lines of “But aren’t you already in the middle of knitting something, socks or a sweater or something, for The Baby?”  I sighed and said that I didn’t know if I had any yarn, though.  At which point, he completely lost it and, waving his arm in the general direction of my studio, laughed until he cried (the Pandemic does funny things to people…)

I patiently explained that I might not have The Right Yarn.  You know, the right weight, the right fiber content, the right color, the right amount…And he dried his tears and wisely went outside to water the plants.

I dug around in my yarn stash and did, in fact, discover suitable yarn!

I plan to do some fun striping and/or color-blocking with the sweater — and we will see what happens with the hat and booties too 🙂

And now I had better get back to my knitting! (Yes, Evelyn, the Baby Knitting!)
