Fall is the Uber Knitting Season!  After Summer — when even the most dedicated knitters may be setting down their needles in favor of fun-in-the-sun — Fall comes in all chilly and sings her Siren song and we knitters all go a little yarn-crazed.  Or a lot yarn-crazed!  We cast on sweaters and socks and hats and cowls for the entire family.  We light candles and knit and drink tea and knit and even when we get sleepy we knit “just one more row.”  And I, for one, take my knitting to bed — where it competes pretty successfully against my current mystery book for my attention.  I may, in fact, knit myself to sleep….

So, yes, it may seem excessive.  But there is also a practical side to this burst of knitting.  Baby, it’s cold outside!  Suddenly, those hats for the grandkids that I set aside in late April are calling to me in the night — as are the 2 wool sweater projects for my youngest grandson in Reno (it snowed an inch in Reno yesterday!).

And I am going got get started on those real, real soon, I promise….But i have some even more pressing knitting to attend to right now: my HALLOWEEN COWL AND MITTS!!

These are the Jimmy Beans Fright Club project (designed by Amy Gunderson).

The box holds 30 little packages — yarn for the project and little knitting gifites — and there are day-by-day directions to make the cowl and mitts.  But if I am going to have this done for Halloween, I have to stay on track!  Actually, I started a little early — hoping to finish a few days before Halloween.  Well, we will see —at the moment I am part-way into Day 11’s knitting….

Anyway, it is ridiculously fun knitting — and fully in the spirit of the Halloween season.  So tonight, we will turn on some post-season baseball and light some candles and pour some tea — and then I will knit some Halloween happiness 🙂
