September is a bit tricky.  It is technically still Summer, but it seems like it really want to be Fall.  No wonder some people just call it “Pumpkin Spice Season”!  Mornings feel like Fall and afternoons still feel like Summer.  Days are getting shorter, but the sun is still brilliant and high in the sky.  Fall wool yarns are calling to me — impatient to get knitted — but  Summer projects are still on the needles.

Well, seasons are progressions, right?  Like a Fade project.

The Fade technique has been wildly popular over the past few years — both designers and dyers have added to its popularity.  Designers using it for sweaters, shawls, cowls…and dyers curating yarn sets.

It is terrific color play!  You begin with one color of yarn (either a solid or variegated) and after awhile you start alternating that yarn with a row (or rows) of the next color.  After awhile you end the first color and continue with the second color alone — until it is time for the third color.  One color fades into the next.

And I think that is what happens in September.  Summer-ness starts overlapping with Fall-ness until Summer bows out and Fall continues on its own.
