We go to the Western Washington State Fair in Puyallup every year.  Every year.  And sometimes twice!  It is a huge one — something like the 8th largest in the world.  And there is surely something for everyone — esp. if you like to eat onion burgers, krusty pups, scones, elephant ears, and the like.  It is a pretty good thing to have so much to look at, watch, and do at the Fair while you are waiting for your burger to digest so you can go get another scone.

George and I went on Sunday with some of our family and are headed back tomorrow with more family (including the grandbabies).  We saw most of what we enjoy seeing already — cows, the enormous draft horses, a pirate high-dive show, Hobby Hall with its tole painting and miniature houses exhibits, baby piggies, quilts and flower arrangements and the whiz-o-matic gadgets…lots of stuff.  You learn things about yourself, tho, even after all these years of fair-going.  This year, I realized that I like goats and pigs better than horses (I think they are lovelier animals).  And who knows what I will discover tomorrow.

Anyway, I did make a couple of knitting-realted purchases.  Some yarn (of course, tho there is less this year than there has been in the past, sadly).

Fair Purchases, Etc. 006

Wool/silk/cashmere — I plan to knit myself a new tam(and will be swatching up some stitch patterns this evening).  I love wearing tams — they do not squash down my hair and yet they keep the rain off!

And this lace-weight wool.  Just because.  Gorgeous, isn't it?

I also bought these two river grass bags from Cambodia (Saraye is the company name).  On my third visit to the booth, I bought the larger one.  Then went back a couple of hours later to get the smaller one — for sock projects and such.

The bottom is kidney-shaped (rather than oval), so it sort of hugs your body when it hangs from your shoulder.  Nice.  I have seen these at yarn shops — but got a good price at The Fair (gotta get a deal at The Fair!).

I may be back at the booth again tomorrow since Sarah will be with me — she was liking by new bags — and we will visit the yarn booth, too.  And the caramel apples.  I did not get one on Sunday — just stared at them all steely-eyed like The Terminator and said "I'll be back."

Do you have a good tam pattern you could share? I haven’t found one that sits on my head the way it should and I think I could actually finish that type of project!
