It has happened again. Knitting-wise, I have bitten off more than I can chew (without choking and gagging – I did a little of both today as I stood staring at my mountain of knitting bags trying to decide which of 9 projects to work on!).
I am not going to try to explain myself, justify myself or even scold myself. It just happens sometimes. But freaking out over my knitting is ridiculous and I decided I needed to get a handle on it. Some kind of reasonable process to get things finished. A plan of some sort.
So, I listed out each project. And under each project, I wrote down what parts or steps need to be done – i.e. the foot of the 2nd Bronze Sock, then its toe shaping, then its kitchner/finishing. Three steps. Most of the other projects have more than 3 steps. In fact, my total number of steps is 50.
Now, that may make it all look daunting – but each step has a little “check off” circle next to it and I happen to find inordinate satisfaction in checking off a little circle. So much so, that I will chug through that last inch of stockinette foot at 11:00 pm just so I can mark it off.
And if I take a step-by-step approach to a piece, I will be able to note my progress and that will make me feel better too. A little focus, a little sense of accomplishment, a little bit of control. And, hopefully, I will get my “work load” down to a manageable 5 projects.
