Although the jack o-lantern is not even cold yet (and there is still some of the good trick-or-treat candy left in the big silver bowl), the Holiday Season is already making itself felt.

Today, our boxed Christmas cards arrived, as did the order form for wreaths (school fundraiser).  We went to the zoo to see the new wolf exhibit (it is splendid! one is nose-to-nose with the wolves!) and saw that they are setting up for ZooLights (runs Thanksgiving through December) already.  In fact, they looked pretty much ready to fire up the lights!  Starbucks has started using their Holiday paper cups (they are adorable this year, by the way).  And I seem to have started playing my wintery-but-not overly-Christmassy cds in the car.

Sooo, I suppose it is time to start my Christmas gift knitting.

(Actually, October 1st is the time to start my Christmas gift knitting…but, um, well….)

I am knitting some Christmas gifts this year – though I am not able to elaborate in this blog because some of the you-know-who might read it and that would ruin the surprise of opening a gift that is still on some very pointy needles!

No, really, I plan to have everything properly bound off by December 24th – in spite of getting a bit of a late start.  (It is only sporting to keep that hope going at this point – good heavens, it is not even Thanksgiving yet!)  That said, I will confess that George’s cashmere scarf from last year is still on the needles – which is the lowest I have sunk to date.  Soooo, maybe I should do something about that.  (And I don’t mean finish it and wrap it for this Christmas! Really?)

My Christmas knitting list is something like (without getting too specific):

1)      A few projects with yarn bought and good to go

2)      One project actually cast on

3)      One idea left over from last year that I have the yarn for, but would have to design

4)      One gift left from last year and not done (sorry, honey!) that will not be an actual Christmas gift, but that I feel I have to finish before Christmas anyway so it sort of belongs on this list

5)      A nebulous feeling that there might be another can’t-resist gift project lurking out there in my future (maybe around Thanksgiving – I usually get some fiery inspiration around Thanksgiving…)

And so, there you have it.  Tis the season! And the reason I drink double cappuccinos in adorable paper cups.
