Apparently, I do sleep with my knitting.  I had not really thought about it that way before, but I do.  Not actually in my bed!  But next to it – like a good and faithful dog.

I realized that I habitually keep my knitting near me all night when I happened to mention to another knitter that I always have my knitting tools kit with me – that I all but sleep with it.  Well, I said, I actually do kind sleep with it – it is next to the bed every night in my knitting bag.  Hmmm.

And why is my knitting beside the bed every night?

I guess I just like to have it there.  I do not wake up and knit in the middle of the night.  Nor do I wake up and knit in bed first thing in the morning.  I sometimes knit in bed (in lieu of reading) before going to sleep, but certainly not every night (except in November and December – but that has everything to do with the Christmas deadline!).

Yet, every night I pick up my knitting bag, turn out the house lights and head to bed.   Even if I am very, very sleepy and have no intention of knitting in bed.  Even if it is very, very late and I have to get up very, very early –  even I have enough sense to go straight to sleep in that situation (unless it is December…) .  Even if I have been falling asleep over my knitting in the living room for the past half hour and I know it is not even physically possible for me to knit any more that night.

So, yup, I do sleep with my knitting.

Perhaps you need it near you in case you have to leave the house suddenly in the night? In case of emergency, take knitting?
