It is nearly Halloween and I seem to be receiving visits from a ghost – The Ghost of Knitting Past.  First it was Elizabeth Zimmermann’s “Green Sweater.”  Then it was “ye olde time-y” (a pet phrase in our family) Bouncing Baby Set from Homespun Handknit.  Now it is another EZ pattern: The Seamless Hybrid Sweater in Knitting Without Tears.

It is a particularly compelling ghost!

I finished the Baby Set and the Green Sweater is on the needles.  The Seamless Hybrid Sweater is still only a spirited specter — but I suspect it is only a matter of time until I succumb.  I had not been looking for a sweater pattern, but came upon it as I was looking up a hat pattern for a friend.  The book sort of fell open to the page spookily and there it was: the ideal sweater for my dear husband George!  (I might mention that I have not knit him a sweater – started a couple, yes, quite a while ago, but never finished one….).

I had been talking about a nice Aran knit for him – something very traditional and ornate.  But had not even gotten around to buying yarn for it.  And now here is a sweater that will suit him much better – a fine-gauge sweater that he can wear a lot in our Pacific Northwest climate.  It is a saddle-shoulder sweater (and he does look good in that style!).  And it is EZ’s pattern – which makes it kind of magical and venerable.

I looked it up on Ravelry to see how it had worked up for other knitters and it was fabulous over and over again, every time!  I am pretty excited.  Especially when I think about the yarn – it really does call for a gorgeous yarn.  O, the pricking of my thumbs…
