I love it when two inspirations collide!

I have been knitting my Color Affection – 3 different yarns in coordinating gorgeous gold tones!

But have been also thinking about how stunning the ones knit up in strong contrast colors are.  Not regretting my color choice, but a little wistful about the high contrast pieces – which will be so much in style this fall!

So I confess that I had been contemplating a second one, thinking maybe I could find some suitable yarn in my stash.

Cut to our trip to Seattle last weekend.  We went to see the King Tut exhibit at the Seattle Science Center.  Exquisite pieces!  We enjoyed it all very much.  And – as so often happens when I see exciting art pieces – I thought “how could I incorporate some of this into a knit piece?”

The Color Affection!

Imagine the Color Affection – with its curved stripes so similar to the necklaces of Ancient Egypt – done in the strong contrasting colors we associate with Ancient Egyptian art (carnelian, turquoise, kohl, gold!).  It came as a vision – with the colors at the top of the shawl giving way to stone-colored yarn at the lower edge, like the fading paint on the artifacts.

So, Sarah and I looked up a lot of Ancient Egyptian images online, went stash diving, and came up with this:

  Epyptian 1

  Egyptian 2

  Egyptian 3

  King Tut 1

 Viva King Tut!
