Okay, now where was I?
Oh, yes, The Beachy Q’mitl.
There has been an out-of-town baby shower (which Sonja & I hosted), 3 days of taking care of Owen, and the 4th of July since I last wrote — so it is going to take me a moment to get back on track….
Well, true to my usual process, I have seized upon a concept (fossils mostly — tho I associate fossils with the beach after having read “Remarkable Creatures” by Tracy Chevalier), joined it to a project (a Q’mitl for wearing at the beach) gathered yarns, gathered stitch patterns, made a few notes and sketches, tussled with it all in my brain (this involves carrying the basket of yarns, stitch patterns, notes, and sketches around the house with me and staring at them) — and then last night it all sorted itself out in at something I can start working with! So, I sat in bed at around 11:30 pm with the sketches, notes, stitch patterns, yarns laid out around me (to the silent dismay of my poor husband who probably thought we were going to go to sleep — tho, truly, who could sleep with the barrage of fireworks all around our house anyway?) and…where was I? Oh, yes, a working plan for the Beachy Q’mitl. So, yup, now I have one and can start my swatches.
I am pretty excited!
And here are some photos of the Nordic Baby Vest — which was (in the ta-da nick of time!) done in time for the baby shower on Saturday. There is long, involved story about that weekend which includes 2 extensive power outages — picture me knitting tiny stitches in black yarn by flashlight — but we will just cut to the chase and say that it was lovingly presented, suitably admired — and the we all ate cake. Perfect.
