I think I have a blog post with this title every year about this time! But I am, indeed, back from The Beach — having had a fabulous time with my family. There is something incredibly and heartbreakingly wonderful about watching my grandkids playing on the same beach my kids played on — the same beach we have all been playing on for 40 years.
I did get some knitting done and finally finished the Leaves of Grass pi shawl. I only had to graft a short section of the lace edging, weave in a few ends, and block it — but it took me nearly a week to get to it! Anyhow, it is done and I am very pleased! Photos below.
I made progress on some other projects and am still in the “summer knitting” frame of mind — so I hope to get a few of them done before “autumn knitting” calls too compellingly!
As it is, I have a stack of new fall knitting magazines in front of me. And a goodly amount of pink yarn — Sarah’s baby is due in 2 months!! So, I had better get cracking on some of that.
Somewhat related to knitting is our new computer. It is related to knitting in that I will be using it to write my blog, write up patterns, and generally interact with the knitting world via the Internet. My old computer has been on its last gasps for months — as has George’s (both are Neolithic by computer standards). So, we decided to get one new computer and share it. We both have iPads (which is what I am writing on now) so we do not need to use our desktop computers as much as we used to. We are setting it up in my study and figure we can manage without too much conflict.
Well, the first conflict came when he said he could set up the computer this afternoon. And I said did he mean he would have to sit at my desk? (where I had been planning to work this afternoon, of course) Well, yes he did. And so here I am typing on the dining room table. But surely this is just an anomaly (like those big scary things the Star Trek crew is always running into…?) and we really will have no trouble sharing the computer — and my desk. Okay, I figure if he really needs to use the computer sometimes, well, that just gives me more knitting time.
