Today is Veterans Day and my thanks and prayers go out to all who served and those who are currently serving in our Armed Forces — and their families as well.
November winds have been blowing and blasting all around us since we woke this morning — to the thunk and clatter of branches hitting our roof! It is dark now and the winds are roaring even more ferociously. We had a taste of torrential November rains this past weekend.
Halloween, the switch from Daylight Savings Time, Election Day, and now (almost) Veterans Day are behind us. Meaning it is undeniably and irrevocably and officially Mid-November. Meaning it is time for…..Christmas Knitting!!!
Actually, I am ahead of the game because I have projects in mind and yarn in hand (some of it, anyway). In fact, I swatched up and started the first grandbaby animal hat last night — while, I might point out, it was still (officially) Early November. I confess that I fantasized about binding off my Autumn Knitting before casting on the Christmas Knitting — even as I “joined to work in the round, being careful not to twist stitches” on the chicken hat. But, aside from Kitchnering the toe of my second ‘Hawks Sock (pictured below), it was not to be. The Autumn Knitting and the Christmas Knitting will just have to run neck-and-neck until either the former is complete or I catapult into a complete panic about Santa Lucia Day and set aside the Autumn Knitting until Epiphany — the latter scenario being more likely.
The grandbabies are all getting animal hats with either coordinating booties or hand-mitts (depending on age). The rest of the family is also getting hand-knit gifts– but I cannot give details as there is the outside chance that some of them might read my blog. Part of the game is to maintain the element of surprise (or at least the illusion of the element of surprise). I will just say that I think I am being both realistic and brilliant in my Christmas Knitting for the family this year — which statement would probably strike fear in the heart of any adult family member who might actually be reading the blog. Part of the game is to cause a little anticipatory trembling (or at least the threat of a little anticipatory trembling).
So, onward! Blow thou Winter Winds! Just don’t cut off our power again — I got a lot of knitting to do tonight!
