Sasha received her Fair Isle gloves! So, I can talk about them now and post photos. They are the Nuthatch Gloves from Susan Anderson-Freed's Colorwork Creations. Worked in Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift — which is absolutely exquisite yarn! (I may not be able to knit with any other fingering weight wool after this)
With these gloves, one begins with the tip of the thumb. One proceeds to knit the thumb, then each finger (top down). Then, one joins the fingers together and knits the body if the glove, adding the thumb, and finishes up with the cuff.
It took me 4 hours to successfully cast on and knit the first few rounds of the first thumb. I slowly finished the thumb – and continued on to the fingers. Then, the gauge issues surfaced. I have a little graveyard of fingers and thumbs that bear witness to the gauge issues. By the time I had the gauge nailed down, tho, I had gotten much better at knitting with 2 colors on tiny dbl pointed needles.
The gloves are lovely, if I do say so myself. Really, really lovely. Sasha is pleased. I am pleased. A Happy Christmas to all and to all a Good Night!
