Have you ever found yourself in the kitchen hunting up a snack and nothing seems right? Crackers and cheese? No. Apple? No. Cookies? No. And then you realize, "Hey, I'm ravenous! I need a sandwich!"
Well, I had that kind of thing happen to me with my knitting. I was flipping through a Shetland lace book trolling for stitch patterns for the tortoiseshell silk/mohair lace weight yarn I bought at Madrona (I am going to California soon and somehow it always seems like a good idea to have a lace shawl project for a trip….) when I suddenly realized "Hey, I'm ravenous! I need a sweater!" I've been working on a lace q'mitl, socks, Sarah's glove, swatches for a fingerless glove — these are the cookies, the Brie and crackers of the knitting world. Delightful, delicious, elegant, and often satisfying. But now I just a nice, thick, juicy sandwich — a sweater.
I briefly thought about the yarn I bought to (finally!) knit myself a summer cardigan, but that is a design project — too much to take on before my trip. And then I cast my eyes over to the Bailiwick Pullover project* http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bailiwick-pullover which has been sitting beside me on the piano bench for a couple of weeks. (By which I mean it has been sitting on the piano bench which is next to my chair in the living room — I did not mean to imply that we were playing duets!)
Brilliant! The front bodice is done and the back is all picked up on the needles and ready to go. It is just a matter of following a few simple charts for the back bodice and then stockinette the rest of the body and knit the sleeves (a bit of patterning there) and poof! A lovely Spring Into Summer sweater that will be perfect for Fall as well. The yarn is baby alpaca/Pima cotton in a golden mustard color. Soft, soft, soft…mmmm…..
*this is a project from Interweave Knits that I began 2 years ago and, well, yeah….
