The four baby sweaters Sarah & I knitted this winter/spring have been delivered to the respective babies — so I can now post photos of them!

These two zip-up-the-back sweaters were knit for cousins Shilo and Caspian who were born exactly 4 weeks apart.  Sarah knit the blues & orange one and I knit gray & yellow & green one.  We hunted through Ravelry for a zip-up-the-back pattern and finally found this (nearly?) vintage one from 1982.  The caption reads "Teach yourself to knit in easy stages with this marvelous beginner project — easy, easier, easiest!"  Hah!  Do you see that hood with the perpendicular welts?  It pretty much twisted my brain — and Sarah's too!  And I do not consider sewing zipper into a sweater a feat for the novice.  I admit we made up stripe sequences — but the original pattern provides both cable and lace variations!

(By today's standards, it seems absolutely unethical to promote this pattern as a teach-yourself-to-knit project!  Of course, this pattern was published before all the computer resources we have now which help both designers and knitters.  How robust and determined knitters can be!)

But we really loved how the sweater turned out and will keep this pattern handy for future projects.

(As you can see, I have not yet learned how to rotate my photos for the blog!)

This charming gansey-style piece is "Izaiah's Pullover" by Kim Barnette from Classic Elite Yarns.  An absolutely delightful project to knit — and another "keeper" for future babies!  Sarah knit the same pattern in a deep teal for a friend's baby (not yet born) and I knit it for a friend's grand baby, August.  These — like the zip sweaters above — are terrific for playgrounds and other outdoor adventures!

We have 2 more sweaters to knit — for babies due this fall.  It is pretty much an on-going thing, this knitting for babies!

So how large does this gansey pattern go? Probably not large enough for my grandkids? It is awfully cute!
