I finished my Summer Shawl in time for Summer! And after several blazing hot days to finish out Spring, we have an appropriately cool gray day for trying it out. Our morning “marine layer” never burned off today — tho there are still 4 or 5 hours of daylight yet, so one should not give up hope.
These are precisely the conditions for which I knit this shawl. When hot turns to cool. It is 100% cotton (Cascade UltraPima — a firm but soft yarn which does not split and which comes in a full range of dynamic colors). It is long and wrap-able. It is summer stripe-y.
The pattern is Classic Elite’s “The Runway Wrap” designed by Susan Mills. Simplicity itself: garter stitch with cast-on increases each side every 6 rows. I followed the stripe pattern exactly, but chose my own colors: brights mixed with neutrals, to complement my summer wardrobe. Perfect with denim shorts and a tank top. Perfect with a black linen dress. Beach or barbecue, patio or poolside.
Summer, here I come!
