If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, you know that I enjoy variety in my knitting. I am happiest when I have 5 or 6 projects going — a little simple knitting, a little complicated knitting, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue….But sometimes, I have to buckle down on one or two projects because their time has come. And at present, I am buckling down on my Halloween cowl-and-mitts and my grandson Julian’s Autumn Sweater (“Concentric Circles Sweater” from Kira Designs)
I am SOOOO close to done on the cowl-and-mitts set! And they will be bright and cheery to wear on these grayer and grayer November days. I am also SOOOO close to done on Julian’s sweater. And it is getting cold in Reno where he lives — they have already had some snowfall! The time is certainly ripe for a new sweater — especially if he is going to get good use out of it before he outgrows it!
So, I am ignoring the siren song of shawls and socks and sweaters. I am even averting my eyes from the cabled hat I am knitting for George — which I have sort of promised he would have to wear when putting up the outdoor Christmas lights in a few weeks. But my mind does wander, occasionally, to other projects nonetheless…
Yesterday, I pulled on my most Autumnal hat (a lace leaf design in oranges with touches of brown and apple green…) and on my walk I kept thinking about how I have the pattern and yarn for matching mitts sitting in a project bag all ready to go…it would be soooo easy to cast that on…But I am staying strong!
Knitting round and round on Julian’s sleeve….round and round on the cowl….round and round on each mitt.
And, of course, this is the time of year when every knitting shop and yarn dyer and pattern designer is throwing all the best stuff into emails and unleashing them on the knitting community — knowing we all have wintery knits and Holiday gifts on our minds! Oh the allure!
But I am determined to get the cowl-and-mitts and Julian’s sweater done this week. After that, well, there will most likely be an explosion of casting-ons 😉 After all, ‘tis the Season!
