The time comes in every crafter’s life when it is time to sort the supplies. Apparently, this week was Sarah’s time to sort her yarn stash — and since we share “the yarn brain” it was my time to go to her house and help her do so!
Before I show photos, let me share with you advice meme my friend Joyce shared with me:
A new study has shown that people with a ridiculous amount of craft supplies live longer than those who point it out! 🤣
Now, on to the photos:
It is usually best to dump everything out of bins, baskets, and bags right in the beginning. That way you can get a good look at all that you have to sort, cry a little, sigh a little — and move on to the joy of handing and admiring all your delicious yarn.
Then, of course, comes the actual sorting. Sarah decided to organize some yarn by projects (those that already have a destiny) and the rest by color and/or yarn type — which meant that most of the yarn went into bins with like-hued buddies while 4 bins were allocated for “mohair,” “sock yarn,” “chunky yarn,” and “funky yarn” (those with some kind of unusual characteristic like sequins or are made of rayon or something like that). Part of this process was Sarah hucking balls and skeins of yarn at me from across the room — and then I would drop each one into the bin where it seemed to belong.
The end result was these beautiful towers of yarn-packed bins!
As well as 3 bags of random yarn that Sarah sent home with me to store with my stash. I am thinking we are going to need another sorting day at my house!
And now because you have kindly followed us through the yarn sort, I will finish this off with a little artsy photo of my “Autumn in Istanbul” shawl progress 🙂
