Sarah and I are busy with another bespoke capelette (more on that in a bit), but I managed to finish the Glittering Snowscape Shawl (Stephen West design) — which had only a section of edging left to do. This was the project that I set aside last Spring when a wooly shawl in Autumn colors sank in appeal compared to cotton knits in bright colors.

Come October, I could hardly wait to get back to it, of course! And how fabulous to spend an evening or two knitting and ending up with a new cozy Autumn shawl!

My color choices were inspired by metals: copper, silver, bronze, gold.

I am currently knitting an accent for the bespoke capelette (the main yarn color is black — Sarah is knitting that while I work on the accents). I am using a fine gold silk (held double) on a background of dark gray silk (also held double). The design uses cable techniques inspired by Elsebeth Lavold’s amazing book Viking Patterns For Knitting.

Working a colored cable on a different colored background requires bobbins holding the yarn for each column of the cable. They dangle at the back of my work waiting to be knit and, like school kids, occasionally pestering their neighboring bobbins! There are some twists and tangles along the way. However the effect is worth it 🙂

I will be bringing both my Glittering Snowscape Shawl and my bobbling cable work with me for Thanksgiving with the family. And for those times when there is just too much distraction for complicated cables, my on-going simple sock.

[I am still getting the hang of all the bells and whistles on this new blog site — so thank you for your patience! The Subsciption button is now live!!]

The shawl actually resembles a turkey tail, perfect for November!
